Time for a new New Deal
foreclosures affecting large numbers of American workers
With the loss of homes at a high unmatched since The Great Depression, the national welfare demands a stern look at our economy. Although there are many contributing factors, the current administration's "cut taxes and borrow" plan has put the United States deep in national debt. Add to that the corporate desertion of Americans for cheaper, unregulated labor and less strict environmental requirements in foreign countries and the unemployment rate becomes extremely high.
With the loss of jobs and the rise in the cost of gasoline and related prices, Americans are making important decisions about whether to eat, buy medication or pay their mortgages. And the home foreclosures are putting a strain on the welfare system, the services of which have been drastically reduced since the aforementioned tax cuts. What is a nation to do?
It's time for some major changes, the kind that got us out of The Great Depression.
First, American businesses will pay income taxes. Secondly, those which take their production overseas will not benefit from the action. They will be required to make unemployment reparation for each job lost (as they will be saving money by moving) and their products will be subject to heavy tariffs when they reenter the country.
These actions should encourage fleeing corporations to think twice before they take away from the US economy. American companies owe their success to America. They need to remember that.
President Bush addresses America
George Bush will be held personally responsible for the debt he raised during his tenure as president. And, as he planned to do to our children and our children's children, his offspring will continue to make payment until the debt is fulfilled. I hope both girls marry well.
A straight income tax will be put into place, taxing by percent and applicable only to the earner and his dependents. With this the wealthiest will be paying the most money for taxes, their fair share. There will be no deductions. Any deductions for work related supplies, travel, etc. must be filed separately under a business/worker tax. With this new income we will improve America.
It's time we took back control of our economy. Let's put America back to work.
